Namibia: Delays in Tourist Murder CaseTest Court's Patience
With their latest appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court, the case against former Police officer Fanuel Festus Shipanga (38) and his co-accused, Paulus Kamati (27), has now been postponed seven times for the Police to further investigate the matter.
The investigations are still not completed, Public Prosecutor Taodago Gaweseb told Magistrate Elsie Schickerling yesterday, before asking for the case to be postponed again so that the Police can continue with their work on the case.
The Magistrate granted a postponement to October 30, but also suggested to Gaweseb that he should tell the investigating officer working on the case that the court would not much longer be entertaining requests for further postponements.
Shipanga and Kamati face charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and kidnapping.
They are accused of shooting a German visitor to Namibia, Johannes Fellinger (56), at the Francois Feste stone ruins in the Khomas Hochland some 60 km west of Windhoek on July 8 last year.
They allegedly also robbed Fellinger, who was a professional photographer, and his wife and kidnapped Mrs Fellinger after her husband had been killed.
She was rescued after the fleeing robbers overturned the Fellingers' vehicle, with which they were trying to get away from the scene of the shooting, on a gravel road in the area.
Shipanga was arrested at Ondangwa on August 3 last year, while Kamati was eventually arrested in Windhoek on September 14.
They have both remained in custody since their arrest.http://allafrica.com/
