Lawyer Pleads Guilty in $35 Million Foreclosure Fraud Scheme
A lawyer has pleaded guilty in what prosecutors have described as a $35 million dollar scheme to defraud homeowners facing foreclosure.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland says 37-year-old Richard Allison of Camp Springs pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
Federal authorities say Allison became involved in the fraud while doing legal work for the Metropolitan Money Store and two other Maryland companies that offered services to homeowners in financial trouble.
Allison was accused of acting as a straw buyer on two properties and creating loan documents with false financial and personal information.
Those still facing charges include Metropolitan Money Store president Joy Jackson and her husband, Kurt Fordham.
