Tanzania: Woman in Trouble Over Fake Papers
The police also found a variety of driving licenses, vehicle registration cards and other important documents all of which were found to be counterfeit.
A 40-year old woman is being questioned by the police after she was named by aspiring police officers found with the fake certificates as being behind the racket.
Regional police commander Matei Basilio confirmed the incident, adding that eleven people who wanted to the police force using fake certificates have also been arrested.
They are among more than 3,000 young men and women in Arusha Urban district who had applied to enlist for training as a requirement to become full policemen and women.
District authorities found eleven of the applicants with counterfeit certificates during the screening exercise involving officials from the defence and security organs as well as education officials.
Among the forged credentials were school leaving certificates, birth certificates and those from the National Examination Council.
When quizzed by the police, the suspects said they got the documents from the woman, a resident of Unga Limited suburb on the southern fringes on Arusha.
However, when questioned by the police, the lady claimed that she had nothing to do with the documents, explaining that a customer had left them at her premises.Police picked her up after she denied knowledge or the whereabouts of the said customer. Several aspiring police officers tried to run away after realising that the police took more interest in the certificates they presented.
Two other suspects escaped leaving the eleven who were later arrested by the police for being found with forged certificates. The RPC did not hint legal measures to be taken against them.
