Over two dozen lawsuits were filed against the diocese involving allegations of sexual abuse by Rev. George McFadden. The diocese's most notorious priest was accused of molesting more than two dozen children since the 1950s. The lawsuits claimed McFadden sexually abused teenaged victims and alleged the Sioux City Diocese covered up McFadden's behavior by transferring him from parish to parish. Since 2004, 27 lawsuits have been filed against the diocese; it has paid $2.6 million to settle sexual abuse lawsuits and claims. (Jan-17-07)[]
