Lakesite, TN: In April 2002, Glen Ellis Smith was arrested and handcuffed after reportedly making harassing phone calls. Smith was placed in the back seat of the patrol car, but while Officer Marty Dunn was outside of the car, Smith was able to get into the front seat and step on the gas. Dunn fired his gun as the car lurched toward him. Smith was shot and killed by Officer Dunn in the parking lot of the McDonald's restaurant at Lakesite. A wrongful death lawsuit was brought against the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department who has reached a $75,000 settlement. (Dec-06-06)[]
