Axis-Shield Afinion Patent Granted in China

DUNDEE, SCOTLAND - Axis-Shield, the international in-vitro diagnostics company, announced today that it has received notice of approval of its patent application in China, covering Afinion technology, which complements similar approvals in Europe and Japan.

The patent grant ensures that the novel disposable cassette system and the key elements of the detection technology employed in Afinion are protected from copying by third parties. The system is rapidly becoming accepted as a best-in-class versatile desk-top analyser for use at the point of care. Recent independent user reports from American customers have confirmed both this and the ease-of-use, speed and accuracy of the system.

Ian Gilham, Axis-Shield CEO, commented: “We are pleased to have received Afinion patent protection in what is becoming an important and growing market for Axis-Shield. We are building a solid NycoCard business in China, particularly in diabetes with our HbA1c test, and believe that substantial potential also exists for Afinion in the Chinese market-place.”

Axis-Shield is an international in vitro diagnostics company, headquartered in Dundee with R&D and manufacturing bases in Dundee and Oslo.  The Group specializes in the supply of instruments and tests for the rapidly growing physician’s office testing market and the development, manufacture and marketing of innovative proprietary diagnostics kits in areas of clinical need, including cardiovascular and neurological diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes.
