US Patent Office Upholds Neuralstem Patent
ROCKVILLE, MD - Neuralstem Inc. announced in a Thursday press release the issuance of a certificate of reexamination from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) confirming the validity of one of its core patents, US Patent No. 5,753,506 “Isolation, propagation and Directed Differentiation of Stem Cells From Embryonic and Adult Central Nervous System of Mammals” covering both process and composition of matter claims for it’s proprietary human neural stem cells.
The company said the reexamination was filed in October of 2003 at the request of StemCells Inc. “We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the re-examination challenging one of our core patents,” said President and CEO Richard Garr.
“This is the third time that the USPTO has had an opportunity to look at our patent and the third time that the USPTO has confirmed the validity of our claims. We believe that the ruling here once again confirms our intellectual property standing around this important, novel human neural stem cell technology.”
Neuralstem Inc. is a biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of treatments based on the transplantation of human neural stem cells.
